Autism and Functional Literacy: Writing and Communication Strategies
Literacy is often an overlooked area for children who are perceived as "too impaired" to participate in reading and writing exercises. Because of the limited exposure to books and other forms of literacy, students with autism often do not have systematic, natural exposure to reading that their peers enjoy. Reading and writing are the tools that could open the door to communication for students.
