Visual Schedules for Comprehension
Providing a predictable environment and routine is an important component of classroom programming for students on the autism spectrum. Understanding the environment and what is expected is often difficult for children on the spectrum.
Nevertheless, it is impossible to avoid change in daily routines for any number of reasons (fire drills, delay starts, or peer absences). Visual schedules can help students during the difficult time of transition to cut down on the communication behaviors.
